AC Benahavís Athletico 11–1 Calahonda

Avalon Over-60s Walking Football League – 09/05/26

AC Benahavís Athletico 11–1 Calahonda

AC Benahavís Athletico welcomed local rivals Calahonda to Benahavís for the final match of the season — and what a finale it proved to be.

Already confirmed as league runners-up, Athletico produced a masterclass in walking football from the very first whistle, playing neat, possession-based football and dominating throughout.

The breakthrough came after Athletico were awarded a penalty for a goal-area infringement. Marc Morris stepped up confidently to score, before quickly doubling his tally with a trademark pirouette that left the defender stranded before firing home to give Athletico a comfortable 2–0 lead by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter continued in much the same fashion. Rob Byron made it 3–0 with a powerful strike into the top corner. Calahonda did threaten briefly, rattling the crossbar from a free-kick, but goalkeeper Tony Peters otherwise had very little to do.

Alfredo entered the game with real intent and soon began to dominate proceedings. Following a flowing passing move, he was rewarded with his first goal of the afternoon. Captain Fitzy was also enjoying himself and, when his chance came, he chopped back Ronaldo-style before calmly side-footing home to make it 5–0. Alfredo then added another with a composed left-foot finish to send Athletico into the break 6–0 ahead.

Athletico continued to press in the second half. Meeksy got himself on the scoresheet following a well-worked free-kick routine, although Calahonda managed to pull one back from the penalty spot.

Alfredo, however, was simply unstoppable. He completed his hat-trick with a classy dink over the goalkeeper for Athletico’s eighth goal. Tony Peters was finally called into action shortly afterwards and produced a couple of excellent saves in quick succession . A clever pass then found Alfredo in space and, showing great composure, he wrong-footed the keeper before slotting home again to make it 9–1. Martin “Del” Delaney was unlucky not to score when he struck the post.

To Calahonda’s credit, they continued to battle despite the scoreline, but Athletico were determined to finish the season in style. The visiting goalkeeper produced two excellent saves to deny Bill Ideson and Alfredo, but Alfredo would still have the final word, blasting home his fifth goal of the match with a stunning strike before Rob Byron completed the scoring at 11–1 with a delightful dink of his own over the advancing keeper.

What a performance. What a way to end the season.

Man of the Match
